The Franklinton Lady Demons remained undefeated after their close 58-56 win over the Pine Lady Raiders Thursday night.

Franklinton jumped out to a 19-5 lead after the first period, but Pine clawed back to pull within 31-28 at the half. But the 10-0 Lady Demons dodged a bullet thanks to some poor shooting at the foul line by Pine in the second half. The Lady Raiders hit on only 14-of-36 free throws (39 percent), which proved to be the difference.

“When you miss so many free throws you can’t expect to beat anybody,” said Pine coach Tate Kennedy. “The girls played hard and had a good defensive game. They (Franklinton) are much faster and bigger than us, so I am proud of the way we hung in there.”

Pine’s Breyanna Brown led all scorers with 30 points. She also pulled down 20 rebounds as well. Morgan Thomas and Paris Kennedy each had eight points each, while Shay Seals added five.

Franklinton’s Cheyenne Fornea came up big with 16 points followed by Kierra Williams with 15 and Haley Sellers with 8.

Pine, now 4-4 on the season, travels to take on the Mt. Hermon Lady Yellowjackets Friday night. Franklinton hosted Jewel-Sumner last night.
