Doyle Wesley Knight

Doyle Wesley Knight, 82, a resident of Thomas died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at 8 a.m. at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

Born June 7, 1930, he was a former machinist, and an active member of New Beginnings Baptist Church, where he volunteered greatly. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having retired from the Corps after 23 years of service, including serving during the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a jack-of-all-trades upon retirement and he maintained workshops with every tool imaginable at his home.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Beryl Thompson Knight of Thomas; three sons, Richard L. Kelly of Macon, Mo., Randall G. (Connie) Kelly of Sharpsburg, Ga. and Ronald G. (Carol) Kelly of Manchester, N.H.; three grandchildren, Dean Kelly, Alan Kelly and Christina Kelly; three sisters, Laminda Rhoden of Bogalusa, and his twin sister, Doris Creel, and Clara Mae Kennedy, both of Pine; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lynette and John Kelley of Gretna; a stepson and family, Donald (Terri) Smart, of Mt. Hermon; a special niece and nephew, Megan and Keith Branch of Thomas, and their children, Carrie and Luke; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Oscar Knight and Emma O’Berry Knight; sisters, Lillian Carter and Lois Hollinshead; and brothers, Jack Knight and Talmadge Knight.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 20 at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and continue on Friday from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Keith Branch officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Smith Cemetery.
