Sue Gregory Coleman, 66, native of LaSalle Parish, returned to her maker, Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, in her home outside of Franklinton, after an honorable battle with ovarian cancer. She was born July 30, 1942 in Louisiana to Fred and Ada Rea Gregory. She had one brother, Billy Gregory, and many childhood friends.

Before graduating from LaSalle High in Olla, she met her best friend and husband of 48 years, Robert Coleman. Shortly after being married, her husband joined the Navy and they began their adventure across the U.S., living in Washington, West Virginia, North Carolina and Illinois, and they finally returned home to Louisiana where they maintained residency in Jena for many years.

Many remember Sue from her time as court reporter and the judge’s secretary at the Jena Courthouse, others from sharing their lives as the Colemans reared their children and enjoyed the simplicity of life: food, family, and the great outdoors. Camping gave Sue and her family a lifetime of memories, and culminated in a pilgrimage through the Great Redwood Forest of California to Alaska and home.

After her children left home, she and her husband moved further south to State Line where they built their retirement home on a beautiful 100 acres and met some of the most amazing people who carried her through the construction of their home to her battle with ovarian cancer. Though it took her from our lives earlier than any had imagined she would leave, it is no surprise that throughout the experience she helped us all to laugh, cry, and love God more deeply.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Coleman; her children, Ken Coleman, Robin and Shane Caldwell and Leah and Jon Lentz; her grandchildren, Brianna and Ashley Keene and Haden and Izik Lentz; aunts, Alma and Bobbie; and a host of extended family and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Gregory; her mother, Ada Rea Gregory; and her brother, Billy Gregory.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchitoches. A reception will follow in the parish hall of the church.
