Bobby Louis Henry, Sergeant Major (retired), passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 23, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with several complicated medical conditions.

All who knew Bobby cherished him. The family is comforted by the knowledge that his suffering is over and by the strength of his faith. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1962 until August 1987, achieving the prestigious rank of sergeant major. He left a tremendous impact on those he served with and those he served for. His service after retirement from the Army included his involvement in the Sergeant Major’s Association and the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church.

His greatest contribution to this world is his legacy of courage, strength, leadership, and faith. He is the example of courage to stand and face your fears and challenges; no matter the odds, there is always hope. He is the example of strength to see any task completed and done well; He would often say, “Cover all the ground you stand on.” He is the example of leadership that pushes others to excel and surpass all expectations and leadership that never wavers in demonstrating it is never too late to or too hard to try again. He is the example of faith that provides his family and friends with the comfort of knowing that he now walks with God.

He was quick with a smile and quick to encourage, always ready to help and always able to see the best and bring out the best in those around him. His legacy endures in those who were lucky enough to have known him. We send him to his final resting place with the words from Matthew 25:23, “Well done good and faithful servant.”

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra, who he adored; his sons, Steven and Mark; and his daughter, Becky, as well as five sisters and six grandchildren.

Graveside services with military honors were held Friday, Oct. 26, Post Cemetery, Fort Huachuca, in Sierra Vista, Ariz.
