Bogalusa defeats Gonzales Nationals in Dixie district tourney

Bogalusa answered the Gonzales Nationals in both the first and fifth innings to claim a 9-3 victory in a 9 and 10-year-old Dixie District Tournament game at the Airport Park’s Evan Rays Field.

Bogalusa scored five runs in the bottom of the first and four in the fifth to combat Gonzales’ one run in the first and two in the fifth. Bogalusa out hit Gonzales 11-10.

Sam Allen struck out one and allowed five hits over three innings in the start for Bogalusa. Luke Fonda struck out two and allowed five hits in three innings of relief.

Kori Malbrough surrendered four hits in one inning for Gonzales. Hunter Nickens struck out five in four innings of relief striking out seven.

Jarvis Dawson was 3-for-3 at the plate for Bogalusa with two runs and one RBI. Austin Stogner was 2-for-2 with a RBI and Jake Bracey was 1-for-1.

Allen (four RBIs, run), Joey Smith (two runs, RBI, stolen base), Nate Bracey (two runs), Caleb Brown and Fonda were each 1-for-3 and Chase Penton and Landon Keller each scored one run.

Nickens (RBI, stolen base) Walker Brassette and Andrew Cook were each 2-for-3 for Gonzales. Harris LeBlanc was 1-for-1 with one run, Jack Simmons was 1-for-2 and Luke Iles had two RBIs. Malbrough and Reed Gaudin were each 1-for-4 with one run.

Malbrough beat out a grounder to lead off the game before Nickens dropped a single over second to put Gonzales ahead 1-0 after Simmons’ grounder through the infield.

Bogalusa quickly answered. Nate Bracey grounded by second and Dawson dropped a single over second with one out. Allen followed by grounding by third to drive in three runs and scored on pass ball. Stogner lined over short to make it 5-1 after Penton reached on a fielder’s choice.

Cook and Jake Bracey each got hits in the second inning but were left stranded. LeBlanc was left stranded in the third and Dawson was thrown out at second on Smith’s single to shallow center after beating out a grounder.

Gonzales loaded the bases on Nicken’s single to the right gap and Brasette’s liner over short but failed to score in the fourth. They crossed two in the fifth on an error after Gaudin lined over short.

Stogner lined over third and Fonda to left in the bottom half before Dawson grounded by second to plate a run. Bogalusa added three more runs in the inning.

Fonda struck out two in the sixth and third baseman Brown stepped on the bag for the final out on a grounder.
