Turnovers played a key role in Varnado’s 65-53 setback to Covenant Christian Academy in a District 8-1A game held on the road Thursday.

The Wildcats committed 17 turnovers in the loss.

Delrick Abrams recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and pulling down 17 rebounds.

D.J. Jefferson tallied 11 points for Varnado.

The loss dropped the Wildcats to 18-5 overall and 9-2 in district.

Varnado’s 9-2 district mark had the Wildcats tied with Covenant Christian Academy for first place in the district.

Varnado closed out its regular season and district campaign by facing Ecole Classique in a game Friday night.
