Lady Bucs down Brookhaven in tourney

Bowling Green’s Ashley Foret scored 28 points, helping the Lady Bucs defeat Brookhaven Academy, 77-54, in the Class AAA South State Tournament on Tuesday at Columbia Academy.

Foret connected on 9-of-16 from the field, 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and she knocked down all six of her free-throw attempts. Foret also made five steals, dished out three assists, grabbed two rebounds and blocked a shot.

Cailee Fruge scored 11 points and was successful on half of her 10 shot attempts and she made her only free-throw attempt. Fruge also recorded a rebound and made a steal.

Katelin Junkins scored nine points on 3-of-5 field goals and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. Junkins dished out an assist as well.

McKinley Seal and Shelby McDonald tallied seven points each. Seal dished out nine assists, grabbed two boards and had a pair of steals. McDonald was good on three of her six shots. She also had three rebounds and a steal.

Sydney Watson posted six points. She knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in as many attempts. Watson finished with three assists, three steals and a blocked shot.

Hollie Waskom had four points, five assists, two rebounds and a steal.

Jadyn Jenkins recorded three points on a trey.

Peyton Stogner finished with two points and four rebounds.

Bowling Green shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) from the field and the Lady Buccaneers were good on 10 of their 13 free throws (76.9 percent) and nine of their 20 (45 percent) shots from 3-point range.

Bowling Green jumped out to a big lead early. They were in front 25-9 through one quarter. The Lady Bucs scored the game’s first seven points and also had an 18-4 advantage at one point.

Bowling Green led 43-27 at halftime before outscoring Brookhaven, 19-10, in the third. Brookhaven outscored Bowling Green, 17-15, in the fourth.

Up next for Bowling Green is a contest against Columbia Academy this evening at 5:15.

The top four teams from this tournament advance to the Class AAA Tournament, which takes place next week at Brookhaven Academy.
