The driver of a log truck that caused a two-vehicle accident Friday morning was issued two citations, according to the Bogalusa Police Department report.

According to the BPD report, Joseph May, 20, of Angie, was issued citations for disobeying a red light and careless operation. There were no serious injuries in the crash, which also involved a Buick Park Avenue occupied by two juveniles on their way to school.

The accident occurred at 6:34 a.m., near the intersection of North Columbia Street/Louisiana Highway 21 and Louisiana Avenue/Louisiana Highway 10.

According to the BPD report, multiple witnesses told officers that the Buick was travelling west on Louisiana Avenue and was attempting to turn left onto Columbia Street.

The witnesses stated that the Buick had a green arrow light and began to make the turn. At that time, May’s truck entered the intersection after ignoring a red light while travelling south on Columbia Street.

The witnesses stated that May’s truck struck the Buick, causing the truck to overturn.

Logs spilled across the roadway, and a portion of Columbia Street was blocked for several hours as the mess was cleaned up. Northbound traffic toward the intersection was temporarily detoured.

The truck was registered to Circle H Trucking, of Lucedale, Miss.

Traffic was reopened on Columbia Street a little after 10 a.m.
