Washington Parish is quickly becoming known for its pageant winners.

Weeks after Franklinton’s High School student Katherine Haik won prestigious 2015 Miss Teen USA crown at the plush Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas on Aug. 22, Bogalusa’s Kana Knight followed right behind with a victory of her own.

The 10-year-old Knight won the 2016 Rapides Parish Junior Miss Heart of the USA at the preliminary pageant in Pineville on Sept. 26.

Knight advances to the Miss Heart of the USA State Pageant in Lafayette on Aug. 6, 2016. She will have the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship and continue on to the national competition and compete for $7,000 in scholarships.

Kana is no stranger to winning pageants. She previously captured the 2015 River Parishes Miss Heart of the USA “Queen of Hearts” title in August of 2014.

Kana is the daughter of Thomas and Joanie Knight. Her grandparents are Beverly Tynes of Bogalusa, Wilford and Peggy Magee of Pine, and Lavel and Tina Knight of Franklinton.

Kana is in the fifth grade at Central Elementary School. Kana said she would like to eliminate hunger and help others.

Haik’s platform centered around being a positive role model for young girls and work with charities.

Haik and Knight are to be commended for having their heart in the right place. Despite their youth, they both realize helping others is important in the grand scheme of things.
