Lewis to run for Parish District 4

Levi Lewis Sr. has announced his intention to run for Washington Parish Council, District 4.

Lewis lives in Varnado, and is the son of Ed and Laura Lewis. He is married to Katherine Ruth Nichols Lewis and they have three children, Rosalyn, Loleta and Levi Jr.

Lewis is a graduate of Wesley Ray High School, and earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial education from Southern University. He later earned a master’s degree in vocational education from Southern, and participates in continuing education classes at both Southern and LSU.

Lewis said his vision for the parish is to promote industrial development and employment opportunities, and to promote the development of parish recreational facilities. He also plans to support the school board with drop out prevention programs, and seek grants for parish improvement and additional programs.

He is a member of Mary’s Chapel United Methodist Church, where he is a lay leader, lay speaker and district lay leader. He is the chairperson of the building committee and an assistant Sunday school teacher. Lewis is a member of the district board of laity, and a member of the board of ordained ministers.

Lewis has been an instructor and assistant director in the Louisiana Technical College System, and director of the system’s Sidney Collier Campus in New Orleans. He has also worked as a quality control manager and project supervisor for UATC, and an instructor for the Home Builder’s Institute.

Lewis has been a member of the Louisiana Vocational Educators’ Association, vice president of the Louisiana Directors’ Association and commissioner of the COEI of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

He is a member of the Washington Parish Men’s Club, and a member of the board of directors of Varnado Water Works. He has been the chairperson of the Washington Parish Planning Commission, and serves on the board of directors of the Quad Area Community Action Agency.

Lewis has also served as the treasurer of the Concerned Citizens Organization and chairperson for the annual Martin Luther King parade and program. He has also worked with Habitat for Humanity of Washington Parish.
