Bowling Green returns home tonight, taking on Adams County Christian School in a match up of 2-0 teams at home.
The Buccaneers begin this week after a 20-13 victory over Wayne Academy last Friday.
Bowling Green coach David Currier would like to see his team do better is against the run. The defense allowed 375 yards on 51 carries last week and 441 total.
“Defense has to step up and play a little more physical, but in the end, I was proud of the way we hung in there and stepped up in the end to win it,” Currier said. “It speaks volumes about your team when you can do that.”
Brandon McElveen led the defense with 13 tackles. Hunter Mulkey had 12 tackles and intercepted a pass. Offensively, Mulkey caught a pass for 30 yards that set up a touchdown. Hayden Thompson had a good night defensively and on special teams. Defensively, he made 12 tackles.
On special teams he averaged 37.6 yards per punt over his five attempts.
Drake Spears finished with 10 tackles and Matt Pierce made nine.
Adams County Christian School comes into the week following its 40-14 win over Jackson Academy.
Coach David King said he’s been impressed with his defense.
“Our defense has played really well,” King said. “They’ve put us in a position to have some good field position and mount some quick drives.”
King said the defense has been pretty balanced this season.
His top players are end Christopher White and defensive backs Sam Butler and Richard Conn.
Offensively, ACCS has a balanced attack. Quarterback Carlos Woods is a returning starter.
Running back Chisum Mardis is the feature back and he ran for more than 100 yards and tallied two touchdowns last week. He has scored four touchdowns this season.
King talked about some of the keys to this week’s contest.
“Looking at game film, stopping their quarterback,” King said. “They’ve got an athletic quarterback. Their middle linebackers are pretty good. Coach Currier has a proven track record. I’ve also got four starters who are out with injury.”
The four ACCS players who are out for this week are defensive end Cole Gatlin, left guard Morgan Meadows, defensive tackle Caden Guillespie and wide receiver George Scott. Scott has caught three touchdowns this season.
