Friday night saw the face off between Franklinton High’s Demons against the John Curtis Patriots at Mandeville High School for the pre-season scrimmage game. The two 15-minute halves ended in a 14-14 tie.

The Patriots’ Devon Benn returned the kick off to open up the first half. The Demon defense took the field and immediately made its first big play of the game. Franklinton’s Kobe Crain picked off Brock Hebert’s first pass attempt of the game. The interception set the Demons up for a short offensive run, which ended with a punt after failing to pick up first down.

On the ensuing drive, Hebert attempted another pass, which was again intercepted by Crain. Crain returned the interception 35 years for the first touchdown of the game.

Walker Andrews lined up for the kick, but Patriots got hit with an offside flag, putting the Demons in the position for a two-point conversion. Quarterback Tahj Magee handed off to Relik Wilson, who ran in for the two points bringing the score to 8-0.

John Curtis answered with a four-minute, seven-play drive down to the Franklinton 41. On the next play, Benn took the ball and broke several tackles before putting the Patriots on the board with a touchdown run. Hebert ran for the two-point conversion to tie the game.

The teams remained tied at halftime. The Demons opened the third quarter with a 10-play drive, and a 26-yard pass from Magee to Tavion Partman put Franklinton in good shape at the John Curtis 25. However, Magee’s next pass was intercepted in the endzone by Taj Bickmann.

With five minutes left in the game, the Patriots fumbled and Franklinton’s Rodney King recovered the ball at the John Curtis 22. Magee moved his team forward with a hand off to Azende Magee, followed by a handoff to Wilson.

At the 1-yard line, Tahj Magee handed off to Wilson for a touchdown to put the score at 14-8. Andrews attempted the extra point but it was wide.

With less than a minute left, the Patriots tied the game with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Hebert to Bickmann. Schexnayder attempted the extra point, but missed, leaving the final score at 14-14.
